Hi! My name is Coray Seifert, I’m the Director of Production here at Experiment 7 and this is my first post on the E7 blog. I’ve been working on VR games in various capacities for the past 4 years, first with Impeller Studios, then with Autodesk’s AR/VR Interactive Group, but most meaningfully with the fine folks here at Experiment 7. Over that time, I’ve made a number of horrific mistakes that haunt my dreams to this day. I’d like to share some of them with you!
Last blog post I talked about how we were creating “games on tables” for our Magic Table™ platform.
We’re making a series of beautiful environments where you can meet up with your friends from around the world. In the middle of each of these environments is a “Magic Table™” that can spawn any number of games that are played on tables.
Geoffrey Zatkin, EEDAR co-founder, and Demetri Detsaridis, former GM of Zynga New York, announced the launch of their virtual reality development studio, Experiment 7, with offices in San Diego and New York. Experiment 7's mission is to give VR players "better than life" tabletop gaming experiences, making game night possible for anyone, anywhere, at any time. Experiment 7's VR platform includes everything from traditional multiplayer strategy games like chess to upcoming original titles designed by legendary creators, which the company will be announcing soon.
The virtual cat is out of the bag! We sat down with James Brightman, the Editor in Chief of GamesIndustry.biz, to discuss Experiment 7, our first game, and our vision for tabletop games in VR.
Welcome to the first Experiment 7 blog post—the one where we finally start talking about what we’re doing.
But before that, hello! I’m Geoffrey “GZ” Zatkin, co-founder and creative director of Experiment 7. I’ve been working in the game industry for over two decades, and was an indie developer before that. I was fortunate enough to have been a member of the original EverQuest design team, and worked in senior/lead design positions on a decade of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs). In 2006 I co-founded the game research company EEDAR, and more recently co-founded Experiment 7 with the help of some of my favorite game industry people.
